Location: Center for Curatorial Studies Bard College
During this talk, I introduced the work of the Indonesian modernists Otto Djaya and Agus Djaya, their exhibition in the Stedelijk Museum in 1947, and the historical context of the Dutch Indonesian War of Independence (1945-1949). I addressed questions and issues in relation to working with politicised archives, engaging with postcolonial memory, and the importance of this line of inquiry for museums of modern and contemporary art.
